RANTS & MUMBLES!
Mar. 15th, 2015 12:40 amJust signed a Daily Kos online petition, to the President & Congress, to cancel all Student Loan Debt, public and private.
I've long contended that a college or university education should be free to any eligible student. Now, that does not mean you get to go to Harvard Law on my dime, but, anything undergrad should be free. I do make an exception for those studying to becomes doctors; we don't have enough trained, qualified doctors in America. No one on the Planet should graduate from a university with a student loan debt of $100,000 - $300,000. Unconscionable!
It is said that the student debt in this country is $1.3 Trillion, carried by 40 Million people. How is it that just 40 Million (out of a country of 320 Million + ) owe that much student load debt? And, 86% of that debt is owed to the United States government. That means me & every tax paying citizen in this country! As the petition states, as a country, we should not be in the business of profiting off the education of our citizens. Profiteering is more like it.
As a tax paying citizen of this country, I say forgive all student debt, now. We will end up with more educated citizens & be a better, smarter country in the bargain. If we were smarter & better educated, just maybe, we would not keep electing the idiots we have in Congress. We need to take a page from Germany; not only are all Universities free to their citizens, but, they offer free tuition to Americans & all other International students.
And, the ex-mayor of New York city, Rudy Guiliana (Mr. 911) is faulting the President for not touting the exceptional nature of America. Well, Mr. ex-mayor, we are a long, long way from being exceptional; just take a look around you. Or, are you content to go through life with blinders on?
Enough said. Think I'll go eat more of the Ciabatta Bread & Pineapple Upside Down Cake I made last night. Both came out very well (had the help of a Bread Machine & Betty Crocker Super Moist cake mix). Not perfect, but looked ok & very tasty.
